Charles IV (1316 – 1378), King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor, stands among the most exceptional personages of Czech and European history. Charles IV was an ambitious sovereign, shrewd politician, and urbanistic visionary. Throughout 2016, the year of his 700th birth anniversary, there will be a wide array of commemorative events ranging from exhibitions to historical-themed festivities, conferences, celebrations and special programmes for visitors such as themed tours and walks. This microsite was created to provide information about these programmes, as well as a brief introduction to Charles IV himself.

The 700th anniversary of Charles IV‘s birth is a great reason to learn more about this king and emperor, as well as the city he made his home and loved above all others, Prague.
